SEO tips for fashion stores
SEO basics that actually move the needle for Nigerian fashion stores.
Updated 31 July 2026
Overview
SEO (search engine optimisation) is how you show up when people search for what you sell. On Javern, the search that matters is both in-app / on-site search (buyers looking through Javern) and Google search that leads people to your store or products.
On Javern
- Product titles — start with the actual product ("Cropped Ankara Blazer") not with vague adjectives ("Beautiful stunning must-have"). Include the item type and defining features.
- Descriptions — cover the words buyers actually type. "Oversized shirt", "cargo pants", "ankara dress", "senator wear", "linen kaftan".
- Categories — assign the right ones so buyers browsing that category find you.
- Fresh listings. New products and consistent activity signal an active store.
For Google (search-engine visibility)
- Store name matters. A distinctive brand name is easier to rank for than something generic.
- Store description — clear, keyword-rich, no keyword-stuffing. Say what you sell, who it's for, and where you deliver.
- Product titles and descriptions — same principles as Javern search; they also feed Google.
- Photos — Google reads image file names and alt text. Rename

Keywords buyers actually use
- Focus on specific, buyer-intent phrases:
- "Buy ankara blazer Lagos"
- "Nigerian senator wear online"
- "Oversized shirt for women Nigeria"
- Include the city or region if you deliver locally.
- Combine attributes: colour + item + style ("black baggy cargo pants").
Content marketing (long-term SEO)
- Consider writing simple guides on your own social or a blog: "How to style ankara", "Best fabrics for Nigerian weather". Link back to your Javern store.
- Guest posts on fashion blogs and Nigerian style publications.
- Get mentioned in listicles ("Best Nigerian streetwear brands to shop").
Off-page SEO
- Backlinks — mentions of your store from other credible sites help. Get featured, be interviewed, do collaborations.
- Social signals — active Instagram and TikTok accounts linking to your store help Google trust your brand.
What not to do
- Don't stuff keywords into descriptions — reads like spam and hurts conversions.
- Don't buy links or use black-hat SEO tricks.
- Don't rename existing products chasing a keyword — you lose past ranking.
